Neck and Back Injury

Already one of the most prevalent types of personal injury, neck and back injuries are still on the rise in the United States. These types of injuries can be extremely painful and cause the victim to have to miss a substantial amount of work as well as a high level of pain and suffering. In some cases, what starts out as a small pain can escalate quickly into something serious. Even if you visit a doctor regularly, many of these issues can go undiagnosed. If serious enough, there are some that may result in paralyses.

There are many ways in which neck and back injuries can occur. While some may seem obvious, there are others that seem mostly innocuous. In order to get a better idea of how some of these injuries can happen, check the list below:

  • Car accidents
  • Slip and falls
  • Prolonged strains
  • Heavy lifting (especially with improper technique)
  • Whiplash
  • Sprains

While this is not an exhaustive list, these are many of the main ways that these injuries can occur. According to the ACA (American Chiropractic Association), most cases of back pain are mechanical or “non-organic”—meaning they are not caused by serious conditions, such as inflammatory arthritis, infection, fracture or cancer, but by the strains we put on our bodies or improper form. It also states that: low back pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide. This prevalence is why it is so important to continue to pursue justice for the victims of these injuries.

Injuries such as whiplash and prolonged strains and heavy lifting can lead to lasting problems like herniated discs or slipped discs and even life-long neck or back pains. Improper training for jobs and inadequate warning of dangerous situations make the offender liable in these cases. Call Logue Law Group at (724) 350-8995 to learn more and see if your injury entitles you to a compensation.

Nerve Damage

Nerve damage can go along with many other injuries, specifically spinal cord injuries. Any time that a nerve is damaged, it simply means its ability to function has been weakened. There are three main types of nerves active in the human body, each serving a different function and therefore have different effects when they are compromised. The types of nerves are as follows:

  • Motor nerves: these nerves are the ones that allow us to move, sending signals throughout the body to control our hands, fingers, toes, arms, etc. They play an integral part in our ability to function day to day such as picking objects up or being able to put them down in a specific place. Damage to these nerves can be very inconvenient and life-altering.
  • Sensory nerves: these nerves are the one which cause us to detect different feelings such as heat or cold. If these nerves become damaged, our ability to sense the world around us would be greatly changed and could even become dangerous.
  • Autonomic nerves: These nerves control the involuntary functions that take place in our bodies like breathing, and heartbeat. If these nerves suffer from damage, there are serious and even fatal implications.

There are many different levels of nerve damage across each type of nerve. Some are extreme and can cause paralysis or loss of specific functions, others can just make day to day activities more difficult and even cause loss of ability to work. There can even be a chance of fatality in severe enough nerve damage in the right area of the body. In order to make sure that these are being evaluated correctly, it is important to consult a doctor as well as call an attorney to make sure that your pain and suffering is compensated correctly.

If you, a friend, or a loved one may be experiencing these problems and believe that another party is liable for your pain and suffering, please contact Logue Law Group at 844.PITT.DUI today to speak with one of our dedicated and knowledgeable attorneys.
