Professional Drivers
Receiving a traffic ticket might seem minor, but for professional drivers, the stakes are much higher. Mistakes in the driving industry can have severe consequences that affect your career long-term.
Instead of accepting penalties, it’s vital to maintain a clean driving record. If you face a traffic violation charge, promptly contact an experienced Kittanning criminal attorney.
At Logue Law Group, we have a team of Kittanning DUI attorneys who specialize in CDL (commercial driving license) cases. Their expertise can potentially lead to reduced charges or even a dismissal.
Investing in a knowledgeable Kittanning criminal lawyer is a wise decision. It can save you significant costs in future insurance premiums and fines while safeguarding your career.
Rules for Commercial/Professional Drivers
Breaking traffic rules can add points to your driving record, result in hefty fines, and increase your insurance rates. Accumulating too many points may lead to license suspension, which can be catastrophic for professional drivers.
Notification
CDL holders must notify both their employer and PennDOT within 30 days of any traffic violation, even those occurring out of state.
Penalties
For a first-time offense, PennDOT will suspend your Commercial Driving License (CDL) for at least one year if you:
- Drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) with a suspended, revoked, recalled, or canceled CDL
- Commit a felony using a CMV
- Flee the scene of an accident without reporting
- Damage property or an unoccupied vehicle with a CMV
- Cause injury or death with a CMV
- Operate a CMV under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances
- Drive a CMV with a blood alcohol content of .04 or more (half the legal limit in Pennsylvania)
- Refuse a blood alcohol test
For a second offense, your CDL could be suspended for life. Transporting hazardous materials while committing any of these violations leads to a three-year CDL revocation for a first offense.
Repercussions of Multiple Violations
If you’re found guilty of two serious violations within three years, your license could be suspended for at least 60 days. Three violations lead to a 120-day suspension.
Out of State
If another state suspends your license, your employer and others can access this information through the National Driving Register. Pennsylvania will honor suspensions imposed by other states, and even minor offenses can impact your driving record.
